Liquid vinasse is a by product of the sugar beet industry and an acceptable input for organic crops, although consent should be obtained from the relevant certification body before use.

It is predominantly used at high volumes in the autumn as a potash source and as a stimulant for the soil microbial population. However, it can also be used as a foliar spray, together with SM6, or through fertigation systems where the crop needs a quick response to additional potash. Recent work in the Netherlands has shown that Vinasse can significantly reduce levels of Apple Scab spores when applied in the autumn at 200-400 lt/ha. As well as speeding up leaf degradation.
